How Can You Tell What Kind Of Wood Floors You Have?

We have an old Florida home, built in 1950 with original wood floors. I want to clean the floors and make them shiney without having to sand, but how can I tell what kind of finish the wood has (wax based or polyurethane/varnish or…) There is no basement and the house was not built on a slab, it has a crawlspace underneath. Based on this, if you know what type they are can you please recommend a cleaner? Thanks, I’m nervous about ruining!!!

  1. Your best bet it to ask someone at a paint store, or have a flooring person come in and check it out. Might cost you a little as in 25-50 for their time, but probably be worth it.

  2. I would start by giving the floor a good mopping use Murphys Oil Soap. It is designed to clean wooden floors.
Go to this site and see some of their information.http://www.colgate.com/app/MurphyOilSoap…
