Hey Guys I Need Help Looking For A Contractor For Roofing And Airconditioning, What Do I Need To Know?

There is this project manager that came to my house and he offered to do both roofing and changing the aircondition for 25 grand. His company is called liberty construction and I am not sure if they will do a good job because i dont really know that much about his company’s history and i dont want to just spend 25 grand just like that. Please help. He also called later and said that 25 grand wont be a choice anymore unless i sign a contract right away and the minimum i can pay is 32 grand. So what should i do? Do you guys know any good companies i should look at around LA county. please help thanks!

DO NOT HAVE THIS COMPANY DO THE WORK!!! For the following reasons:
1) Anyone who wants to rush you and get a signature ‘today’ is probably trying to pull a fast one.
2) I don’t know how to cost such items, it’s not my line of work. However, you should get at least three (3) estimates on the job, with each estimate being very complete concerning details about what is to be done, what materials are to be used, and any warranty information.
3) VERY IMPORTANT! Make sure you are dealing with a LICENSED CONTRACTOR. Check references, check with the District Attorney (in case there are lawsuits pending), and check to see that the license is valid (state agency, look it up) and that the license is in good standing.
4) I’m not sure on this, but I think you want a separate contractor for each, unless you find a good general contractor who can subcontract each job. Face it, would you want a transmission mechanic to drill-and-fill your teeth? – nah, you’d probably want a dentist.
5) In short, be very careful. This is your property, your investment. Don’t rush into something that could bite you badly. Get educated about your choices. Ask people you know and trust if they have any recommendations for specific contractors.
